About the Artists:
THE PUBLIC SERVICE Seven years ago, The Public Service was a "one-night-only" experiment to cap off a song-a-week project. Today, the Dartmouth-based five-piece is a fixture of Eastern Canada’s indie scene. Known for a sound that marries the driving atmosphere of The War on Drugs with the rich, storied harmonies of Fleetwood Mac, TPS delivers a shimmering live experience that has filled iconic rooms like Massey Hall’s TD Music Hall and the National Arts Centre. With a new album slated for Fall 2026, the band continues to refine their brand of "crunchy" indie-rock, stitched together with grit and grace. TPS features Joss MacNeil on vocals, Jan Lapierre on lead guitar, Justin Huston on bass, Andrew MacCormack on drums, and George Woodhouse on guitar and vocals.

JULIA CUNNINGHAM: Julia Cunningham is an indie pop-folk singer-songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Blending guitars, banjos, pianos, and lush sounds, Julia creates a sound that’s both current and nostalgic. Her debut EP, Dive Deep, earned her a nomination for Music Nova Scotia’s New Artist Recording of the Year in 2024. With two singles released since then and lots more up her sleeve, Julia is building a bigger sound to complement her gentle lyricism with music that makes you want to stay a while. MAT HUGHES: More than singer-songwriter and ace piano player, Halifax-based Mat Hughes is a storyteller and performer of unique magnetism who makes each audience member feel like they’re catching up with an old friend. From playing dive bars and DIY house shows to touring across Canada and gracing hundreds of stages in his home province—most recently, the release show for his latest EP at The Stage at St. Andrews in Halifax—he’s quickly made a name for himself as one of Nova Scotia’s most original talents. For all its foot-tapping, hi-fi instrumentation and subject matter liable to make you laugh out loud—from hot garbage to a bird flown headfirst into a window—Hughes’ third EP “South-Facing Dumpster” may at face value feel like a lighthearted pop album à la John or Joel. Upon closer listening, Mat’s juxtaposition of upbeat melodies and wry, metaconscious lyricism exposes both the absurdity of our contemporary moment and the all-too-human ways we cope with it.
